Maintaining a healthy lifestyle can be challenging, however, it becomes even more difficult when we feel like we have to sacrifice great-tasting foods. But why settle for bland and tasteless meals when there are alternatives? Instead of sticking to the same old menu, why not experiment with new flavors and recipes to meet your fitness and nutrition goals? By getting creative with your food choices and exploring the vast array of options available to you, making the switch to healthier alternatives doesn’t have to be a chore – it can be enjoyable! If you’re looking for inspiration, why not try this delicious healthy banana & chocolate smoothie? It’s the perfect addition to your healthy journey towards achieving your goals.

This recipe takes approximately 5 mins to prep. (Not including the process to freeze your bananas. If you decide to freeze your own and not go with the pre-packaged frozen bananas.) The serving size for this recipe is 2 servings. That way you can share in the goodness with someone else. 😉

What You Need for Your Smoothie:

A blender. I recommend a Nutribullet. If you don’t have one, it is worth getting because it makes the process of blending so effortless.

  • 2 whole frozen bananas: You can buy the ones pre-packaged in the freezer aisle of your local grocery store. Or I like to get fresh bananas and freeze them before making the smoothie. Nutritional Tip: Bananas are loaded with potassium and are a great source of vitamin C. They are also great for heart health, and blood pressure, and help to aid with digestion issues. They are also wonderful to boost energy.
  • 2 (heaping) tbsp cocoa powder: Nutritional Tip: Surprisingly Cocoa Powder has wonderful health benefits. It is rich in theobromine, which is great to protect against cancer, heart disease, and diabetes, and reduces inflammation. It is also low in sugar and fat.
  • 1½ cups unsweetened almond milk (or your choice of milk)
  • ¼ tsp ground cinnamon: Nutritional Tip: Some of the many beneficial health benefits of cinnamon are that it regulates blood sugar and can help reduce the risk of insulin resistance. It’s great against inflammation. Helps lower cholesterol levels. It also defends against infection, colds, and flu, just to name of few of its many awesome properties.
  • 1 tbsp of chia seeds (optional): Nutritional Tip: Chia Seeds have a myriad of benefits. They are a great source of fiber and antioxidants. They contain Omega-3 fatty acids. Reduce blood sugar levels, and support bone health and heart health.
  • ice cubes: Depending on how thick you want your shake to be.

The bananas will provide natural sweetness. However, if you want a bit more sweetness, you can add natural sweeteners that don’t have Erythritol added, like Stevia, Monk Fruit, or Swerve. My personal favorite and go-to is Truvia. It doesn’t leave a bad aftertaste or alter the flavor of what I happen to be making. You can click here to check out Truvia here.

Instructions:

  1. Add all the ingredients to a blender until smooth.
  2. Be sure to taste and adjust to your liking. You can add more milk to thin the smoothie if it’s too thick, or add more ice cubes to thicken. Also, add more cocoa powder if you prefer more chocolate-tasting smoothies. Add more natural sweeteners if you like.
  3. Best served immediately.

Tip: 

To enhance the presentation and satiety of the drink, consider adding additional fruits such as bananas or granola as garnish. This simple addition not only makes the drink more visually appealing but also helps to satisfy your appetite.
