7 Effective Steps to Reach Your Goal!

Do you have a goal that you always delay pursuing? You know, that goal that you keep recycling every year, especially around New Year’s, but never seem to accomplish. You keep telling yourself, “This year is the year”, but your efforts to achieve that goal never materialize. What is preventing you from moving forward? Is it a lack of time, negative influence from people, self-doubt, or a shortage of motivation?

 

Find a Reason to Start!

It’s time to start fresh and leave behind whatever held you back before. Today is a great day to find a reason to start. Take the time to ask yourself some important questions. What motivates you? Why do you want to achieve your goal? Are you striving for better health, career advancement, trying something new, financial freedom, finding love again, or improving your relationships with others? Whatever your goal may be, consider what is driving you towards it. 

It’s important to note that you shouldn’t pursue something solely for someone else’s benefit. However, if you want to improve your health to spend more time with loved ones, that’s a wonderful and selfless reason. On the other hand, trying to lose weight simply to be more attractive to someone else isn’t a good reason. Your goals should enrich your life in some way and be something you genuinely want to achieve. Once you focus on how your goals will positively impact your life, those around you will also be positively impacted.

 

Here are some simple steps to achieving your goals:

    1. Set your goals. Be sure to set short-term goals and long-term goals. (For instance, if your goal is to lose weight. You can set a short-term goal to lose 3 lbs this week. While your long-term goal would be to lose a total of 45 lbs and start a healthier lifestyle.)     2. Set realistic deadlines.
    3. Go into it with the right mindset. Go into it knowing that you WILL achieve!
    4. Take the first step! The first step is monumental because it’s the hardest one to take. Once you start, that adrenaline rush will push you along.
    5. Focus On the Outcome. Give yourself a mental picture of what that goal will look like when you reach it.
    6. Stay Motivated! Keep people in your corner that are supportive and positive. Reward yourself when you achieve those short-term goals as you progress toward your long-term goal.
    7. Persist and Don’t Give Up! There will be setbacks and obstacles along the way. Don’t let those things hinder you from getting to that finish line. Keep moving forward no matter what. Use those setbacks and obstacles as footstools to walk over and get you closer to your goal.

Every experience we encounter in life is a valuable lesson. Regardless of any obstacles, strive to make your journey toward your goal a great experience. The journey itself is incredible, and sharing your goals with others who will hold you accountable is a great way to add purpose to your life.
